The workhorse. Southern yellow pine, treated for ground contact where it counts, is the most affordable way to get a strong, full-size deck. The tradeoff is upkeep: plan on cleaning and re-staining every 2 to 3 years to keep it from graying, checking, and splintering. Done faithfully, a PT deck looks good for decades. Skipped, it looks tired in five years.
Capped composite boards from Trex and TimberTech carry 25 to 50 year fade and stain warranties and ask almost nothing of you: no staining, no sealing, no splinters, just an occasional wash. Up-front cost is higher, but over a 10 year window the total spend often lands close to wood once you count stain, sealer, and weekends lost to maintenance. Composite goes over a pressure-treated frame, so the structure underneath is the same proven lumber either way.

If your frame is sound but the boards and railings are past their prime, resurfacing replaces everything you see and touch, decking, railings, stairs treads, fascia, while keeping the structure. It typically saves 30 to 50 percent versus a full rebuild. The honest catch: the frame has to actually be sound. We open it up, check the ledger, joists, posts, and hardware, and tell you straight whether resurfacing is a smart save or money layered over a problem. If the frame won't carry another 15 years, we'll show you why and price the rebuild instead.
Not every deck needs a contractor-sized project. We replace rotted boards, tighten or rebuild railings, fix bouncy stairs, sister weakened joists, and re-flash ledgers. If a repair gets you safely through a few more seasons, that's what we'll recommend, and you'll have a relationship with a crew who already knows your deck when the bigger project eventually comes.
A surprising amount of deck damage starts at the wall: an unflashed ledger, siding cut tight to the decking, water wicking into the rim joist. If you're already replacing siding, doing the deck at the same time means the ledger, house wrap, and flashing get integrated as one assembly instead of patched around each other.
